366 Runs of my 57th year - Week 1, well sorta...

Hi everyone

Well I have no completed the seventh run of my quest to run 366 times (367 actually) between September 12 2015 and September 12 2016. So far it has gone ok, in fact, better than ok.

As many of you know, I occasionally struggle with depression but don't like the side effects of anti-depressants so running is how I manage it. There are tonnes of great articles on this subject (http://www.health.harvard.edu/mind-and-mood/exercise-and-depression-report-excerpt) and at least one fantastic book that I highly recommend Exercise for Mood and Anxiety: Proven Strategies for Overcoming Depression and Enhancing Well-Being: Michael Otto, Jasper Smits. In any case, after years of loading my system with depressants it is no surprise that my brain chemistry is a bit off and running helps. Well, that is my story, anyway, and I am sticking to it!

So, now we are one week into the challenge. After this post I will be updating the blog every Sunday or Monday and will be posting my runs from Strava for the week here. In addition I will add any amusing or interesting stuff that may be of note. Further, I am now tweeting my runs via the handle @pmackin

So here we are the first week.

Because I get to travel a fair bit, these runs often happen in a number of different cities or towns and I am very pleased that I get a chance to do to that - it is one of the great joys of running, no matter where you are, just put on your shoes (and heart rate monitor, GPS watch and iPod) and go!

Onward!

Paul
