I am someone who always likes to have a project on the go, usually tied to new years or my birthday. This past Saturday was the last day in my 56th year and my 1301 day sober. With my 56th birthday on Sunday (beginning my 57th year) and 2016 being a leap year, I decided that I would attempt, note the word attempt, to run every day for a year.
Let us define this a bit better. To meet the goal I must:
- Run every day for a full year from September 12 2015 to September 12 2016 - that will actually be 367 days.
- A run will be a minimum of 3 km
- A week will have runs which total no less than 40 km
- A month will have total distance run of no less than 200 km
- If I miss a day, I will have three days to make it up with two runs in a single day
- Under the case of inclement weather, up to two days per month may be done on an indoor running track or treadmill
- I will do no less than 6 races - minimum of 1/2 marathon distance
Everything else is icing.
This will be daunting. So far I have 4 days under my belt totalling 30 km - when I am done, that will seem inconsequential. This blog will be updated weekly, or on special occasions as warranted. Specific goals and targets will be established every month, where possible through Strava.
Tonight's run:
I am going to keep this low key until I have successfully navigated to the end of September. I am also going to use this as an excuse to run in every city or place I visit, and if I do my job right, there will be a number of those places coming up.
Wish me luck!
Paul
